I was leading a missions team of Black Gen Z leaders to college campuses across America, when I met a 20-something year old girl named Mikhaella. She attended our Black Voices Movement event in Detroit, Michigan where 150 young Black leaders gathered for a weekend of worship and gospel training. So many were trained and commissioned to carry the message of Jesus!

And Mikhaella was one of them.

In response to our sermon titled “Here Come the Black Evangelists”, she left the event with a burning desire to share the gospel with others in her everyday life. So as an occasional Lyft driver, she thought to herself — “Why not share the gospel with my Lyft passengers?”

So that’s exactly what Mikhaella did!

She came up with the brilliant idea to turn her Lyft side-gig into a side-ministry called UpLyft (cute right?) where all her passengers get to hear the good news of Jesus.

In 2023 alone, Mikhaella saw over 25 people give their lives to Jesus in the back of her car!

Mikhaella called me one day to share stories of how so many people had been getting saved in her Lyft rides! I was absolutely blown away! One story in particular had me floored.

I’ll tell it to you

She picked up a 19ish year old male Lyft passenger that she shared the simple gospel with. When she noticed how intently he was listening to her every word, she asked him straight up – “Do you want to repent of your sins, receive forgiveness through Jesus, and walk in friendship with Him?”

He said YES! So she prayed and led him to Christ right there in her car before dropping him off at this destination.

One would think that’s where the story ended right? But NO! The plot thickened!

Days later, the young man’s mother called Mikhaella! Apparently, her son came home that day and said, “Mom we need to talk”. He told her that he gave his life to Jesus and shared all about his Lyft ride with Mikhaella! The mom had been praying for her son’s salvation for years and was so overjoyed and thankful.

She invited Mikhaella over for dinner, where she asked her to share the gospel with the whole family. This led to the grandmother ALSO giving her life to Jesus!

What an incredible example of how powerfully God can move through our simple steps of courage! Mikhaella’s testimony is one of many stories of impact that I get to see through my work as a missionary.
